Dublin South West TD, Seán Crowe, has welcomed the news that Ibrahim Halawa has been acquitted of all charges in an Egyptian court.

Crowe, the Sinn Féin Foreign Affairs spokesperson, said it is imperative that the Irish government now ensure he is allowed return to Dublin as soon as possible.

Deputy Seán Crowe said:

“It was very welcome to hear that Ibrahim Halawa, from Firhouse in Dublin 24, has been acquitted of all charges by an Egyptian court.

“Ibrahim was unlawfully and unjustly incarcerated in atrocious conditions in Egypt for 4 years. He was 17 when he was arrested and his trial was agonisingly postponed and delayed for years.

“He has finally been cleared of all these charges, which I and many others had repeatedly stated were unsubstantiated.

“It is now imperative that the Irish government, through our Embassy in Cairo, ensures that Ibrahim is allowed return home to Ireland as soon as possible.”
