Sinn Féin TD for Dublin South West Seán Crowe has said that Irish Water need to explain why residents in Dargle Wood, Knocklyon were left for three days without running water over the bank holiday weekend.
Teachta Crowe went on to say that the utility provider needs to take a serious look at the area where there have been over 20 such outages in the past three years.
Teachta Crowe said:
“Residents in Dargle Wood, Knocklyon were left without running water for three days over the bank holiday weekend. It is entirely unacceptable that this should be allowed to happen.
“What makes it worse was that residents were informed that the burst main had been fixed on Monday evening, but they did not in fact have water until Tuesday evening.
“And there have been over 20 such outages in Dargle Wood since May 2022 according to the local residents. Clearly, there is an issue with the water infrastructure in the area and Irish Water need to figure out what is the cause. Dargle Wood residents believe that the old infrastructure was never upgraded to deal with the extent of recent development on neighbouring land.
“We should never leave people without running water for three days, but to do it over a bank holiday weekend is negligent in the extreme.”
