Sinn Féin’s Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Trade and Diaspora, Seán Crowe TD, has expressed his sadness at the passing of Bernie Dwyer.

Bernie, an Irish citizen, was a long-time journalist for Radio Habana Cuba and advocate for the Cuban Five.

Deputy Crowe said:

“It is with deep regret and sadness that I have learnt that Bernie Dwyer has passed away after a long and brave fight against cancer.

“Bernie was a journalist and filmmaker well known for her advocacy work on behalf of the Cuban Five. She was a regular contributor to Radio Habana Cuba and created the influential documentary, The Day Diplomacy Died, which investigate the case of the Cuban Five.

“Even though she was seriously ill in recent times she bravely continued her important work.

“Bernie was a true internationalist and will be sadly missed by all that knew her in Ireland, Cuba, and across the world.

“I would like to extend my deepest sympathy and condolences to Bernie’s family, friends, and comrades.”
