Late Bus Move Welcomed By Crowe

Dublin South West TD Seán Crowe has welcomed the establishment of a group aimed at resolving the industrial dispute at Dublin Bus and said the intervention  was better late than never

Deputy Seán Crowe said;

“I welcome the government belated involvement in the Dublin Bus and hope that a process begins into the exact causes of the dispute that comes after months of negotiation and one strike action.

“Up to now the Government’s policy seemed to be to do nothing and hope that the problem would somehow go away.

“They have seemed to be unwilling or unable to accept their own responsibility for contributing to this dispute by implementing incremental cuts to subsidise public transport, which is currently one of the lowest in Europe

“The Dublin Bus workers by their actions have shown great restraint and the company have been left in an unenviable position in that they have made up a current shortfall of millions of euros.

“With the recession more and more people are reliant on public transport but if fares continue to rise commuters and users will inevitably drop off and seek alternatives.

“Ministers Varadkar  and  Kelly need to wake up to this reality  and need to look again at properly resourcing and supporting this vital piece of public infrastructure.

“I welcome the establishment of the group aimed at resolving the industrial dispute but the government need to come up with ways supporting this company that is so important for Dublin commerce  and its many residents who are dependent on this transport to live their daily lives.”
