Responding to the temporary closure of Bohernabreena Resevoir Dublin South West Sinn Féin TD, Seán Crowe, described the move as an over the top response to the recent anti-social behaviour taking place there.
The reservoir has been closed until further notice.
Deputy Crowe said the move is unacceptable and the only people who will suffer are the hundreds of walkers, runners, anglers and other members of the public who use the facilities on a daily basis.
Speaking today Deputy Crowe said:
“Closing the reservoir, even on a temporary basis, is not the answer to the recent anti-social behaviour taking place there. It is an over the top reaction and it is unacceptable.
“Of course we need to tackle anti-social behaviour but this is not the way. We have anti-social behaviour in parks right across Dublin all the time but we don’t go closing them.
“I have been in touch with the local Garda Superintendent on this matter and I am sure we can resolve the issue without having to resort to closing the facilities.
“This walkway is part of the Wicklow Way walk and it is also a traditional right of way for local residents, both of which will now be impeded by this closure.
“The only people who will suffer as a result of this decision are the walkers, runners, anglers and other members of the public who use these facilities on a daily basis.”
