Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Seán Crowe TD, has welcomed the landmark deal on Iran’s nuclear programme. A significant multi-country framework agreement has set out how Iran can develop its peaceful nuclear programme while economic sanctions on the country will be lifted. Crowe said he hopes this will aid peace, development and stability in the region.
Deputy Seán Crowe said:
“The world was closely watching the marathon negotiations in Switzerland on Iran’s nuclear programme and thankfully a landmark framework deal has been agreed. It would seem that the deal is a win-win for all sides.
“Iran, as a signatory to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), has a right to develop nuclear technology for civilian and peaceful means. It looks like this deal will allow them to do that in an environment of mutual trust and understanding.
“The region is currently blighted by war, violence, and humanitarian suffering. This agreement shows how inclusive and meaningful negotiations can be a bulwark to that.
“I hope that this agreement will lead to greater peace, development and stability in the region.”
