Gang riots in Tallaght – Seán Crowe TD calls for emergency summit
Local Sinn Féin TD Seán Crowe has called for an emergency summit of all relevant agencies, including the Garda and community services, to be convened by South Dublin County Council and involving all local TDs to prevent residents being terrorised by running gang battles in Springfield, Tallaght, as happened on Thursday night.
Deputy Crowe, who lives in the neighbouring estate, said:
“Eyewitnesses told me that it was like a scene out of a Hollywood movie with rival gangs wielding knives, bars, bats and other weapons while terrified families tried to shield their children from the violence.
“The authorities, working with local communities, need to identify ways to prevent this happening again before someone is killed.”
Deputy Crowe added:
“A rise in criminality by a tiny minority is not being effectively tackled and gangs running round at will are angering local communities and causing real fear for families.”
