Sinn Fein Councillor calls for information hotline and counselling service for mothers who have miscarried or lost children
In the light of the information surrounding the misdiagnosis and failure of child
scanning equipment emerging, Tallaght based Sinn Féin Councillor and Dublin Mid
Leinster Regional Health Forum Member Seán Crowe has called for the establishment
of a hotline and Counselling Service to be made available to women who have
miscarried or lost children.
Councillor Seán Crowe said:
“Melissa and Michael Redmond are to be commended for going public about the
traumatic experience which almost led to the death of their baby. It was Melissa’s
instincts and good sense in seeking a second opinion that prevented a tragedy.
“There are now further cases emerging where faulty machines or scanners led to
mistakes being made in determining whether children were alive or dead.
“Throughout all the coverage no one is talking about the effect this having on those
others mothers who were diagnosed under the same procedure and who have lost
children.
