Paperless billing should not be enforced on unwilling customers – Crowe
August 16th, 2013 – Seán Crowe TD
Sinn Féin TD Seán Crowe has called on Comreg to ensure that companies are not allowed to enforce paperless billing systems on unwilling customers.
Deputy Crowe said;
“I am aware of some companies trying to force their customers into a paperless billing system.
“While I would welcome a move towards more environmentally friendly billing systems a paperless system is a step too far for some customers.
“There has to be allowances made for people who don’t use computers and those who have no access to the internet.
“Many people, particularly the elderly, do not use computers and depend on their paper bill to keep on top of their accounts.
“It would be wrong for companies to move to completely paperless systems and I am calling on Comreg to do all in its power to ensure that companies cannot enforce this type of system on unwilling customers.”
