Seán Crowe TD welcomes Ibrahim Halawa’s release from prison
Dublin South West TD, Seán Crowe, has welcomed the news that Ibrahim Halawa has finally been released from prison.
The Sinn Féin Foreign Affairs Spokesperson said:
“I want to warmly welcome the news that Ibrahim Halawa has finally been released from prison in Egypt, one month after a court found him innocent of all charges.
“Ibrahim has suffered a traumatic ordeal. He was arrested when he was 17 years old and imprisoned without trial. He was then charged as an adult and incarcerated for 4 years and 2 months while he went through a totally discredited mass trial process.
“While he was incarcerated he was tortured and his health suffered greatly.
“Thankfully he has now been released from custody. Like countless others I want to send my best wishes to Ibrahim, his family, and everyone who worked so hard to free him. The focus now needs on ensuring that he is urgently and safely allowed return Ireland to his family and friends.”
