“Surely it is reasonable to assume that any parent who may have lost a child is now
wondering whether their child was actually alive. Was the hospital doctor wrong or
was the scan machine working properly on the day?
“We know from published figures that 1 in 4 women have miscarriages.
“Nowhere in the extensive coverage and excuses from the HSE, the Hospitals or the
medical professions has anyone mentioned the trauma that many of these women
are now going through in the light of the publicity surrounding these baby diagnosis
cases.
“I am calling for the Government and the Health Service Executive to establish a
hotline and make counselling services available throughout the state, if needed, for
many of these women who have miscarried or lost children.”
