Sinn Féin’s Leinster House team were asked to respond to a food and medical supplies appeal from the Filipino community of Ireland, for all those affected by Typhoon Haiyan which rocked the eastern part of the country.

Speaking after the organisers of the appeal visited Leinster House to receive the supplies, Sinn Féin’s Foreign Affairs spokesperson said:

“Firstly I want to congratulate the Filipino community in Ireland for the pro-active approach in getting help and aid to all of their fellow Filipino’s who were rocked by this devastating Typhoon.

“The donations we gather for this appeal were a token of Sinn Féin’s solidarity with those affected by this natural disaster.

“Many Philippine nationals have made Ireland their home and do vital work, particularly in the caring professions in hospitals and nursing homes.

“I know so many Irish people very shocked by the images of the destruction the Typoon has brought to the Philippines and I hope they will continue to support the appeals led by civil society and NGO groups to help those most in need.”
