West Tallaght jobs secure after crisis meeting with Minister

Sinn Féin Councillor Seán Crowe today attended a crisis meeting with Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment as part of a constituency
delegation of politicians to discuss the threat to 75 jobs in the West Tallaght area.

The jobs are part of the Jobs Initiative and the Community Employment Scheme and were under threat this week after FÁS threatened to withdraw funding and support the scheme.

Speaking after the meeting Councillor Crowe said: “We have been told that the jobs have been secured as Minister Ó Cuiv informed us that there is a new sponsor available for the Jobs Initiative and Community Employment workers.  I welcome that news from the Minister.

“These jobs are crucial not just to the people employed but also to the local community which depends so much on their vital work.

“Tallaght is one of the Country’s worst unemployment black-spots and I have been calling on successive Ministers to bring forward a strategy to retain and create jobs in this area and its hinterland.

“I reiterate that call today.”
