Sinn Féin TD Seán Crowe has welcomed the announcement from South Dublin County Council that planning permission has been granted which will see a major expansion of the Square in Tallaght and the expectation of over 400 new jobs for Dublin South West.

According to South Dublin County Council, the planning permission granted will see the Square increase in size by half with the redesign also including plans for a plaza between the Luas terminus and the Civic Theatre.

Seán Crowe TD said;

“I welcome the granting of planning permission for this development from South Dublin County Council.

“Dublin South West has the highest level of youth unemployment in the state with nearly 2,700 under 25’s on the live register.

“This development should enable growth, help maintain existing retail jobs in the Square and provide some welcome opportunity for construction sector employment.

“Unfortunately in recent times, many of the larger construction contracts have delivered very little in the form of local jobs and I would hope this development does not follow this well worn pattern.

“The developers of this new project have a legal and moral responsibility to ensure that all those employed are not involved in the black economy, fully tax compliant, and working under agreed statutury employment conditions and terms.

“This development has positive potential wittten all over it and ticks all of the important boxes for Tallaght and it’s environs.

“I look forward to the detail emerging surrounding this planning application and hope to meet with the developers in the very near future to discuss this matter.”
