Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Defence, Seán Crowe TD, has expressed concern at the legal case against Clare Daly TD and Mick Wallace TD.

Along with Sinn Féin, the two TDs have raised questions in the Dáil concerning US military planes landing in Shannon and they are now facing charges that they entered a restricted zone in Shannon Airport in July of last year, while attempting to inspect two US military aircraft in the airport.

Deputy Seán Crowe said:

“There is growing evidence that Shannon Airport has facilitated the US to wage foreign wars. Consecutive Governments for whatever reasons, take the word of the CIA and US Military Authorities on what their aircrafts are carrying through Ireland.

“These planes clearly aid the US in waging war, particularly in the Middle East, and this clearly violates the Government’s stated policy of Irish neutrality and undermines Ireland’s international standing.

“As the Government refuses to inspect these military aircraft to see what they are carrying, these TDs attempted to do that. Their legal cases should be dropped and the Government should order the Gardaí to inspect these planes.”
