Sinn Féin TD for Dublin South West Seán Crowe has welcomed the decision by South Dublin County Council to approve planning permission for the redevelopment of the National Basketball Arena and called on the government to support the project through the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund.

Teachta Crowe said:

“I welcome the news that South Dublin County Council have approved the planning permission for the redevelopment of the National Basketball Arena here in Tallaght.

“Basketball is the number one indoor sport in Ireland and a new and improved national arena will only allow it to grow even further. It’s also a huge boost for the area which is so very welcome.

“I call on the Government now to support the €38m project through the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund so that Ireland can have state-of-the-art facilities that to match our European counterparts.”
