Sinn Féin TD for Dublin South West Seán Crowe has raised the issue of access to vital medication to slow the progression of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy directly with the Minister for Health in the Stormont Assembly Mike Nesbitt MLA.
Speaking after the meeting of the Oireachtas Good Friday Agreement Committee yesterday morning, Teachta Crowe said:
“I had the opportunity to raise the issue of access to vital medication to slow the progression of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy directly with the Minister for Health in the Stormont Assembly Mike Nesbitt MLA yesterday morning.
“Children in the north of Ireland are currently able to access a treatment called givinostat but it is unavailable to children in the south.
“It was a productive engagement and further proof that we have everything to gain through north-south cooperation.
“Young Archie Ennis from my constituency and over a hundred more children like him cannot afford to wait for bureaucracy to take its course. We need action to ensure that all children on this island can have equal access to the vital drugs that will slow the progression of this terrible disease.”
