Sinn Féin TD for Dublin South West Seán Crowe has called for people to be extra vigilant about online fraud with the recent introduction of the €3 customs charge and the subsequent increase in scam tests and emails.
Teachta Crowe said:
“Online fraud is a constantly evolving threat to consumers and whenever there is a new structure regarding customs charges, the scammers are not long in changing their tactics to exploit any confusion or uncertainty.
“Be extra vigilant when it comes to emails and test messages regarding parcel deliveries now that the new €3 customs charge has been introduced. My office has already been getting complaints from constituents that their phones are being bombarded with fraudulent messages since yesterday.
“Verify any link that you receive so that you know it is from An Post or your alternate delivery provider. Never give out personal or payment details unless you are sure.
“This is good practice at any time but especially now with the recent change and the increased threat of fraud.”
