Crowe condemns racist graffiti in Tallaght

Dublin South West TD Seán Crowe has condemned racist graffiti which has appeared on the walls of Tallaght Stadium.

Deputy Crowe informed South Dublin County Council about the graffiti and they have given insurances that it will be removed today.

Deputy Crowe said:

“I today noticed that racist graffiti was drawn onto the exterior walls of Tallaght Stadium and I condemn this anti-social behaviour in the strongest way possible. Tallaght is a vibrant multi-cultural area and any form of racism will not be tolerated. Every resident of the area has a right to live and work in peace, and to go about their lives free from racism, or any form of discriminatory abuse.

“I informed South Dublin County Council of the graffiti and they will send a team to remove it today.

“It is not yet clear who carried out this deplorable act, but their choice of Tallaght Stadium is particularly appalling. Since the stadium opened its doors to the public in 2009 it has been a fantastic amenity for all residents of Tallaght and South Dublin County in general.  Members from every ethnic, racial and religious background have been welcomed into the stadium to enjoy all the sporting and cultural events which have been hosted there.

“I personally know that Shamrock Rovers Football Club have been to the forefront of campaigns to remove all forms of racism from sport and within the Tallaght community, and is an active member in the Show Racism The Red Card campaign.

“I encourage all residents to be vigilant against all forms of racism in Tallaght and to inform South Dublin County Council and An Garda Siochana if they notice anymore racist graffiti. We must all work together to ensure Tallaght continues to be a safe and welcoming area to people of all ethnicities, races and religions.”
