Crowe – Government indifference to rising unemployment shocking
Dublin South West Deputy Seán Crowe responding to the latest unemployment figures that show an additional 190,000 on the Live Register since the Government came to power sadi that the Government’s indifference to rising unemployment and to unemployed workers was shocking.
Speaking in response to the publication of July’s Live Register statistics Seán Crowe said;
“These latest figures show that 19,000 additional people are on the live register since FG and Labour came to power and that rates of unemployment continue to increase despite high levels of emigration.
“Some 54% of those unemployed have been out of work for more than a year, almost the length of time of this Government.
“Those stuck on the Live Register need to hear from the Government when the 100,000 additional new jobs promised by the Taoiseach will actually materialise. Unemployed workers need help to get back to work not meaningless spin from the Taoiseach and his Cabinet colleagues.
“One thing is ubandantly clear is that the current policies being pursued by this Administration are failing to tackle the growing unemployment crisis and in sticking to failed policies, the Government has shown that it is indifferent to the needs of the unemployed.
“There has to be a re-orientation of current policies including putting a stop to paying billions of Euros into toxic banks, monies that should be used to promote employment, to support industry, small businesses and stimulate areas like the construction sector that is clearly dying on its feet.”
