Sinn Féin TD for Dublin South West and party spokesperson on Foreign Affairs Seán Crowe TD has welcomed the successful passing of new rules for digital policy legislation across the EU.

From December 2015, roaming charges across EU member states will have ended.

Séan Crowe TD said:

“Cuts to roaming charges contained in previous EU legislation will be effective from July but with the passing of these landmark new rules, roaming charges will be abolished across the EU altogether from 2015.

“This development will be welcomed by tourists and business people alike as they will no longer have to worry about incurring extortionate additional charges while travelling anywhere in the EU.

“We previously had the farcical situation where people living or visiting border counties had tariffs applied despite being in this jurisdiction. This is a victory for common sense and for once commuters are the clear beneficiaries”.
