Dublin South West Sinn Féin TD, Seán Crowe, has welcomed the announcement that Pfizer will invest $100 million in their Grange Castle site in South County Dublin to increase its manufacturing capacity.

Preparation is underway to allow construction to commence with approximately 140 construction jobs over the next year with a peak of 250 jobs. The facility will is likely to be operational in 2015.

Deputy Seán Crowe said:

“Pfizer’s announcement that it will invest $100 million in their Grange Castle site is very welcome for the local area and will be a boost for the local economy in South County Dublin.

“The investment will also create up to 250 construction jobs, which will be a shot in the arm for the construction industry that has been devastated by the recession.

“Our on-going high unemployment rate, and especially youth unemployment, shows how badly Ireland needs jobs.

“The government has a duty to stimulate economic growth and create employment. Securing investments like this are welcome, but they also need to ensure that our stagnant domestic economic is rejuvenated.

“This is a good news story for the area and it has come about by the foresight of South Dublin County Council, the IDA, and other agencies, which help facilitate the creation of sites like the one in Grange Castle.”
