Government lacks vision to create employment for young people – Deputy Seán Crowe

Dublin South West Sinn Féin TD Seán Crowe has challenged the government to make clear its intentions after the EU announced that a youth jobs initiative would go hand-in-hand with the fiscal compact.
Deputy Seán Crowe said: “The announcement of this so-called initiative, as 25 member states signed-off on an austerity treaty, is an attempt to deflect attention from the fiscal compact which will prevent any serious job stimulation for a generation.
“Sinn Féin has rightly challenged the Government over its failure to us unspent structural funds to stimulate our economy. Their usual reply is that Ireland is no longer in receipt of large structural payments yet they are telling us that this is a core part of the so-called jobs initiative.
“This initiative has been dismissed as a political stunt while austerity is being imposed and an attempt is underway to enshrine austerity into law.”
“My Dublin South West Constituency has one of the highest rates of young unemployed people in the State. What is needed to tackle this issue is a genuinely funded stimulus, not stunts and definitely not an austerity treaty.
