Latest Jobless figures show no relief – Deputy Seán Crowe
Speaking after the publication of the Live Register Figures for June, Dublin South West Sinn Féin TD Seán Crowe said:
“The latest live figures show 451,974 people signing on the live register, a figure that gives an underlying unemployment rate of 14.9%.
“The government claim that jobs are its number one priority yet since coming to office, and despite rising emigration, overall unemployment is close to 15%.
“Another worrying statistic is that there is almost 200,000 people who have been unemployed for over 12 months. My own constituency of Dublin South West is one of the most badly affected areas in the State.
“Clearly this Government’s jobs policy is failing but Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s election promise to create 100,000 additional jobs will not be realised. The Government has also failed to produce a credible plan to create and sustain employment as the driver for economic growth nor invest in our economy, our people and our small and medium businesses.
“These latest jobless figures show no relief or opportunity on the horizon for the unemployed and their families.
