Dublin South West representative Seán Crowe TD has described a six month delay in getting real time technology connected as simply crazy.The real time technology along the 27 bus route from Jobstown in Tallaght is still awaiting connection from the ESB six months after being installed.
Deputy Seán Crowe said:
“It is simply crazy to think that almost six months after the installation of real time technology that is supposed to help inform commuters of the time when buses are due to arrive, people using the 27 bus still have to rely on guess work.
“The issue has beeen raised at Dublin Bus Forum meetings by community representatives but no one seems to have any answers or a reasonable excuse, why a simple electrical connection is taking so long.
“Minister of State for Public and Commuter Transport Alan Kelly claims that the new technology forms part of government policy for the better integration of transport system and providing more user friendly and accurate travel information is supposedly a key element of that policy.
“The long delay in getting a simple connection would suggest to most people that there is clear a breakdown of that policy.
“There are also some poles where the actual information units have not been erected like the one at the busy bus stop outside Super Valu at the Square.
“Evidence woud suggest that Minister Kelly’s policy rollout is off track and seems to have lost a wheel somewhere along the way.
“The technology being used along the Jobstown bus route is called smart, intellegent and real time.
“It appears in this case it is neither.”
