Sinn Féin spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Seán Crowe TD, has called on the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney to brief the opposition on his planned action against Russian diplomats.

Teachta Crowe said;

“The news coming from the Tánaiste ahead of today’s cabinet meeting signals a major shift in Ireland’s foreign policy, indicating that the Government will take similar action as the British Government

“Last week we debated in the Dáil about the European Council meeting and the Taoiseach never mentioned anything about a review of the Russian Embassy’s work in Dublin, yet went on to freely announce it to the media.

“This shift in Irish foreign policy seems to be based on information from a foreign intelligence service. This is leading Ireland into unprecedented and highly dangerous territory.

“All parties in the Dáil should be given the courtesy of an explanation and briefed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs before any new policy departure or any new unprecedented action is taken.”
